Students paint Little Free Libraries
Posted on September 8th, 2016
As a part of National Literacy Day, students at St. Martin de Porres School painted Little Free Libraries, which will be distributed throughout the community.
Little Free Libraries are wooden boxes containing free books. People in the community are able to access, keep or leave the books at the Little Free Libraries. Various books have been both donated and supplied from St. Martin de Porres School throughout the summer for this project.
This initiative received $3,480 in funding through the Red Deer Regional Catholic Education Foundation. This project works with the “Small Acts Matter” and “Books on the Bus” programs through the Red Deer & District Family and Community Support Services in partnership with the City of Red Deer. This project will receive approximately $2,400 from Family and Community Support Services for the Little Free Libraries to be put up around the community. The goal of the Little Free Libraries initiative is to promote interactions and literacy throughout Red Deer and area.
